Origin Of The Metroride Commuter Helmet

Our Metroride sporty commuter helmet was released last month at a great rollicking party at Portland’s Gladys Bikes. We’ve gotten some good press – people are finding that the Metroride gives you the best of two worlds: the increased ventilation and minimalist profile of sportier helmets combined with a solid sense of retro style. And of course, a dash of inspired graphics.

The Metroride helmet comes with our best features: the Fidlock magnetic buckle, reflective straps, and our Spin Dial that helps to form a snug and perfect fit.

The Metroride is visually streamlined, and that’s definitely on purpose. Product designer John Larkin has designed close to 50 helmets, and he wanted to give the Metroride a clean ‘vintage’ identity at the same time it is “retro-futurist – something new and different,” as John describes it.

Larkin felt that helmet design was getting too complicated and he wanted to distill and simplify the style.

John’s super happy with how the Metroride helmet turned out, and so are we. Watch John talk about his work below.
